Chapter Hangar

Hangar 400 is located on the east side of the Skagit airport at 15235 Crosswind Drive. Late chapter member John Black generously left the hangar to the chapter in 2025, along with a large selection of tools and an in-progress Pietenpol Air Camper project.

The hangar hosts the chapter’s Sky Flight program, where local high school students work under the supervision of Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) mechanics to learn aircraft maintenance. The students do all the work to restore an aircraft to airworthy status–they’re currently working on a Cessna 150. Chapter members and Sky Flight students are also working to complete the Pietenpol.

The hangar is open every Saturday from 10 am to 4 pm, and on Thursday evenings from 6-8pm for Sky Flight. Jay Findlay is the Hangar Manager.

Use of the Hangar

  • Hangar access – The hangar is open on Saturdays 10:00 am to 4:00 pm and Thursdays 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Additional use of the hangar and access to the tool crib is available by contacting Jay Findlay (360-766-7029), Bruce Fox (360-320-6959), Bill Calvert (360-840-4137) or Larry Buerk (425-281-1008).
  • A hangar chaperone will be present for every Saturday session. Chapter members can volunteer for chaperone duty by picking a day on the signup sheet in the hangar.
  • All work in the hangar must be conducted in a safe manner that does not unduly endanger individuals, equipment or material.
  • Do not use the table saw without prior experience. If you have not used a table saw, ask for assistance.
  • Only those who have completed a check-out with Dan Holden or Bill Calvert may use the metal lathe. The names of those who’ve been checked out is listed on a clipboard adjacent to the lathe.
  • The hangar chaperone will decide who is qualified to use the other equipment.
  • Chapter members can sign out tools and equipment using the signout sheet near the front door. Remember to sign it back it when you return it.
  • You must coordinate with Bill Calvert before doing any work on the Pietenpol project.
  • All work on the SkY Flight project must be under the supervision of an A&P.
  • Chapter members must get approval from the Hangar Manager before leaving materials for their individual projects in the hangar overnight.
  • Clean up your mess and put away all tools you take out.
  • Upon leaving, turn off the heat, air compressor and lights. Check that the door is locked.
